History of  Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church - Breckenridge, Texas

The Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church was established in 1920 in Breckenridge, Texas.

The oil boom brought many people to Breckenridge in the early 1900's. The Catholics gathered and held Mass in a warehouse, and later in the courthouse  with a priest coming from the Ranger community.

Property was purchased and the frame of the church was built in 1920.  The structure was blessed on June 3, 1923.  Shortly after, the rectory was constructed and furnished by the Altar Society.

Plans were created for construction of the new church, and the present brick structure was completed in October 1961.  The old church building was converted into the parish hall.  That parish hall served the Catholic community for over twenty years.  A new parish hall was built and completed in 1989.
